Dry Needling

dry needling is a technique used to increase the range of motion that may be limited due to muscle tightness or scar tissue. It can also help with joint and disc problems.

Why use dry needling?

dry needling is almost always used as part of an overall treatment plan.  It is also called myofascial trigger point therapy, which refers to “trigger points” that are painful when pressed.  Using dry needling to release these trigger points leads to reduction of muscle pain, soreness and tightness.

What to expect with dry needling?

Quick and Painless

Some patients feel a slight sensation during dry needling, but it is not painful. It’s quick and most times you’re out of the office in less than 35 minutes.

Treatment Course

The number of treatments needed can only be decided after an initial consultation with Dr. Antoine. It will vary depending on several factors such as the specific condition, how long you’ve had it and severity of the problem.

Initial Consultation

During your first visit, we will gather all the necessary health history from you so Dr. Antoine can make an informed decision about your treatment options based on clinical evidence based studies and data.

You will be seen in the office 2-4 times a week, depending on your specific health issue, until maximum improvement has been attained. Then you will move into a maintenance schedule that may only be 1 or 2 times a month.

Symptom Relief

Many times acupuncture treatment will result in either a complete absence of symptoms, regardless of how severe they are or how long you’ve been experiencing them.

Dry Needling is used for:

  • Disc problems
  • Sciatica
  • Joint pain
  • Neck/shoulder tightness
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Chronic pain
  • Whiplash
  • Workout/exercise recovery
  • And so much more!

Commonly asked questions regarding dry needling:

Who is best suited to have dry needling therapy?

Anyone who has pain, sore or tight muscles or limited range of motion in joints.

Is dry needling covered by insurance?

Insurance companies treat only a few, very specific things that generally don’t fix the root of the problem, and because of that, Acupuncture Wellness is an out of network provider for insurance. We can provide receipts/superbills for patients to turn in to their insurance companies for possible reimbursement.

Before you can start on your way, the first thing is an evaluation!

Dr. Antoine will meet with you in an initial consultation to evaluate your issue and determine if acupuncture can help you. If you are a good candidate, she will create a custom treatment plan that will include the most appropriate services to get you back on your way to doing what you love as quickly as possible!
